Call for Nominations: Information

Awards

• A Gold Medal shall be awarded, normally tri-annually, for distinguished contributions to EPR (ESR) Spectroscopy including its applications, development and improvements.
• Four Medals (previous to 2024 these were called Silver Medals) shall be awarded, normally tri-annually, for significant contributions to EPR (ESR) Spectroscopy including its applications, development and improvements in the areas of Biology/Biomedicine, Chemistry, Physics/Materials Science and Instrumentation/Method Development (including Software).
•  A Young Investigator Award shall be made annually, for outstanding contributions to EPR (ESR) Spectroscopy by a young scientist in any of the categories listed above. Nominees should be within 10 active research years of receiving the PhD degree on the 1st July of the year of the award. The nominee will ordinarily be at the post-doctoral level. Circumstances such as the birth of a child, illness and other extenuating circumstances will be considered in counting the number of active years of research, as long as the doctoral candidates or junior faculty members states this in the application to be considered for this Award.

Fellowships

A Fellowship of the Society may be conferred on individuals who have made influential and distinguished contributions to the practice of EPR (ESR) Spectroscopy and its welfare over a long period.

Student Poster Awards

The IES sponsors student awards for the best poster(s) at select EPR-related meetings each year. Eligible candidates are graduate students and post docs (not later than 3 years after their PhD.)

Nomination Information

Nomination can be made only by active (paying) IES members. All nominations, accompanied by CV, must also be accompanied by a 100-150 word citation in support of the nomination. Keep in mind that additional supporting material may be included that can help the committee understand the impact of the nominee’s contributions to EPR /ESR.

In the case of nomination for the John-Weil Young Investigator awards, the nominee should be within 10 active research years of receiving the PhD degree on the 1st July of the year of the award. The nominee will ordinarily be at post-doctoral level. Only in exceptional circumstances will either doctoral candidates or junior faculty members be considered for this Award. Moreover, please provide copies of two recently published papers which, in the nominator’s judgment, represents the nominees best work.

Nominations are to be sent to the IES President.

The deadline this year for nominations is the 30^th November 2024.
